ABOUT US
The founder of IPA was Morris Albert Frederick Johnson in 1959. He saw the machines at Riverbrand Ammunition at Athelstone and bought two of them. He modified them himself and to start with he inserted the studs by hand but eventually had machines to do the job. The change to packaging in the orange boxes took place in the late 1970s.
The founder’s son Brian Johnson took over the company in 1976. As the business grew, his wife Geri joined him primarily to do the bookwork. Brian and Geri ran the business from a large shed in their backyard at Glenunga until early 2004.
Warren and Joan Worth (Worth Holding Trust Fund) bought the company in April 2004 and operated it from Kent Town.
In 2015 IPA Studs was purchased by Neil and Lyn Laxton and operated out of Londsdale for around 12 months before re-locating to Old Noarlunga and operating until June 2024. The business was then sold to current owners Stuart and Sherrilee Barbary and the business is currently located in Strathalbyn, continuing to supply the quality IPA Studs range of products.
